The
Myrrh Bearers
The women’s group at St. John the Baptist Greek
Orthodox Church chose our name “The Myrrh Bearers” to
honor the Myrrh Bearing Women.
These women provide a powerful ideal, to which we, as
Orthodox women, can strive.
First, and foremost, they loved the Lord.
They followed the Lord to minister to him and the
other disciples. They
were courageous, remaining by His side, even when others
were afraid. They
proclaimed the Good News.
And they devoted themselves to prayer.
The Myrrh Bearers provides us with an opportunity for
prayer, spiritual growth, service to our parish and our
community, and fellowship. It is a concrete way for us to act on our
love of the Lord, within the context of our parish
community.
