This year, we are pleased to welcome:
Mother Raphaela
from the Holy Myrrhbearers Monastery in New York
Born in Topeka Kansas, Mother Raphaela was baptized in the
Episcopal Church. She attended Barnard College in Manhattan, NY. In 1964, she
entered into the monastic life of the Episcopal Church. She taught classes at
the high school level on the Old & New Testaments, organ & choral music,
and served for 5 years as director of novices for her community.
Mother Raphaela was received into the Orthodox Church in
1977. Since then, with the foundation of Holy Myrrhbearers Monastery in Otego,
NY, she has worked to establish Orthodox monastic life for women in this
country. She is the author of Living in Christ, Essays on the Christian Life
by an Orthodox Nun and Growing in Christ: Shaped in His Image.
